Americans Less Healthy than British Peers

In the May 3, 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, it is being reported that Americans are far less healthy than their British peers. Specifically, they looked at adults in late middle age, comparing rates of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke, lung disease, and cancer. The study was designed to take into account differences in risk factors (such as smoking and obesity) and still shows a strong prevalence for these diseases in the US. (more…)

Understanding What You Read

It’s hard to interpret the results of health studies (or any studies, for that matter). Often what we read is contradictory to previous information we’ve been exposed to. Knowing how to read and interpret a study is important if you are learning about your mind and body.
