Resolutions…

Happy New Year!

As has become the tradition around here, this year’s first issue is an issue to focus on what really matters, to pick a few things to pay attention to throughout the year as you make changes to better your life. As I’ve mentioned before, no single strategy is right for everyone. Rather, these are general guidelines that are applicable to everyone.

First, though, review the resolutions from 2007 and 2008. Make sure you’ve really incorporated those into your life, as they will help you in everything you do. Then build on them by adding these:

  1. Pick one thing you love to do, and do it. Find your passion. What do you love? Playing guitar? Writing? Giving your partner a massage? Hiking? Whatever it is, do it! Explore it. Live it. Incorporate it into your schedule, so that you spend some time doing it on a regular basis. You don’t have to be great at it, you just have to do it. Follow your passion and you will love every day more.
  2. Pick one thing you’ve always wanted to try, and do it. What is something you’ve been curious about but put off until circumstances were right? Skydiving? Starting your own business? Learning to cook? For every dream a person has, there are a million distractions to prevent them from following that dream. Don’t let excuses keep you from trying something new… go learn how to do it, whatever it is.
  3. Pick one thing you’ve been afraid of, and do it. What are you afraid of? Being poor? Getting hurt in a relationship? Don’t let your fears stop you from living! What fear-based motivators control your life? Confront them! Find the right support network, if you need to, and then hit your fears head-on. Blow through them! Instead of asking ‘How can I avoid …?’, ask ‘How can I surmount …?’.

Quote for the week

Live this day as if it will be your last. Remember that you will only find “tomorrow” on the calendars of fools. Forget yesterday’s defeats and ignore the problems of tomorrow. This is it. Doomsday. All you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, “If I had my life to live over again…” Take the baton, now. Run with it! This is your day! Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger, as if they were going to be dead at midnight. Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again. – Og Mandino

Healthy thoughts,
Jeff
